Floor Coating Questions, Answered Plainly

FAQ

Answers to common questions

How much does it cost to epoxy a garage floor?

Typical U.S. prices run from a few dollars to about twelve dollars per square foot. Cracks, old paint, oil stains and the coating type all change the number. Two garages can price very differently. Ask a provider for a written quote that lists prep work, materials and cure time, so you can compare fairly.

Will homeowners insurance pay for a damaged concrete floor?

Usually not for wear, peeling or age. Some policies may cover sudden damage, like a burst pipe that harms a slab. Check your policy and ask your insurer. Providers can often help document damage with photos and notes for a claim. Saucewild Floor Coating cannot say what your policy covers.

Can I coat my garage floor myself?

You can, but it is harder than it looks. Store-bought kits are thinner than many provider products. Poor grinding or damp concrete is the usual reason for peeling. If your slab has cracks, moisture or old sealer, talk with a local provider first.

How long does a floor coating job take?

Many garage floors take a few days from start to finish. Prep comes first, then the coats, then cure time. Cold, damp or humid weather can stretch that. Foot traffic often comes back sooner than cars. Ask the provider for a schedule that fits your floor.

Is epoxy or polyaspartic better for my garage?

It depends on the floor and your plans. Epoxy is common and has a thick, glossy look. Polyaspartic cures faster and handles sunlight well. Many providers use both in layers. Ask each provider why they suggest one over the other.

Will a coating hold up in cold winters and damp basements?

It can, if the slab is prepared well. Frost, road salt and moisture are hard on concrete. A provider may test for moisture and fix cracks before coating. Basements with sump pumps need extra care. Ask how the provider handles damp slabs before you agree to anything.

What should I ask a provider before work starts?

Ask how they prep the slab, what product they use, and how long it cures. Ask what the written quote includes. Ask what happens if a spot peels later. Keep the answers in writing.
